Social Justice 12 is an approved grade 12 elective for graduation requirements. The Big Ideas underlying SJ12 include understanding how:

  • Social justice issues are interconnected.
  • Individual worldviews shape and inform our understanding of social justice issues.
  • The causes of social injustice are complex and have lasting impacts on society.
  • Social justice initiatives can transform individuals and systems.

This course involves understanding and analyzing past and present social justice issues, interpreting competing accounts of events and assessing reliability, analyzing the changing experiences of particular groups and individuals over time and place, thinking about short- and long-term causes and consequences of policy, legislation, or social events. You will engage in perspective-taking and consider social injustices in Canada and the world affecting individuals, groups, and society.
